    El Dogrado Wants You!
Looking for a few brave RPers to build the civilization that will become El Dogrado. We need natives to lay down the foundation for the world and to get things rolling. Please have a MesoAmerican name and a char that fits the culture. Also, bring ideas for this exotic clan of dogs. Every clan needs a chief! We are seeking a seasoned RPer to take charge as Tlanextic, the tribal leader. Connect to Flipside and read the El Dogrado message board for more info! Once the city is established it will make way for the Conquistodogs!
    Conquistodogs
Here's how it will start... Way to the south of El Dogrado, Se`nior Salvatore` Quinciarga landed on the coasts of the new world. Under his command was a rather enthusiastic young explorer by the name of Don Chiquiatta Qui-lypso. She was accompanied by a squire, Sancho Fizzgig, and her 'faithful' horse, Dultivo, and company. Salvatore` decided he needed to set out scouts to the outlaying areas to get a feel for the land. Qui-lypso's humble party was sent north into the valley where they stumbled upon the grand city of El Dogrado. Setting up camp on the Southeastern corner, they hope to gain the trust of the locals and get a feel for this new and completely foreign culture.

    What the heck is it?
El Dogrado is a sub-world of Flipside muck. Here the pseudo-Meso-American landscape is populated by bi-pedal-canines. Both wild and domesticated from across the globe are welcome <NO WEREWOLVES>! Their 'occupations' range from Llama Herder to Temple High Priestess. But, that's JUST the El Dogradians! There are also the Shedogrians, a tribe once living in the area of the city of El Dogrado who were forced to become nomadic because of a climatic change. Upon returning to their valley they found a new city built from the ruins of Shedogra. This vindictive tribe of hunters is now dedicated to upsetting the lives of the citizens of El Dogrado in the hopes of getting their land back. Intermingled in the midst of this struggle for power, is a group of explorers called the Conquistodogs. This ragtag band of foreigners <haling from Spain> came to the shores of the 'New World' in search of knowledge, gold, civilization, gold, artifacts, gold, insight in new cultures, did I mention the gold? Who knows what else the wide oceans will bring to the lands of El Dogrado!
    Quadrupedal Horses Welcomed Too.

    What is the Culture like?
There is more than one culture in the mountainous valley. The Conquistodogs are having a heck of a time figuring things out within the differing tribes. Soon, they know of the city of El Dogrado; and another tribe, the Shedogrians, that keep showing up but their dwellings are as of yet unknown. Very little of the Shedogrian culture is known at this point other than they are very secretive.
But, the El Dogradians are a friendly sort of folk. They are experts in many crafting areas including precious metal-smithing, pottery, jewelry, weaving, instrument making, and weaponary. They adore color, in fact the more the better! They are master builders who have constructed everything from grand temples to the rows of stone houses they dwell in. The temple is used for a number of different rituals, often including sacrifices to their deities. Typically a sacrific consists of special jewery or statuary made of the finest gold, silver, or platinum. It can also be beautifully woven garments, pottery adorned in jewels, or an offering of monetary value, the cacao bean. With all the precious gems and metals this valley holds this cultures method of payment is the bean from a simple plant, here money does grow on trees. Their diet consists of fish, eggs, bread from the grain they grow, and a few other plants used for flavor.
They indulge in a sort of ball game in a court beside the temple. The court holds two vertical hoops high in the air. The object of the game is to knock the ball through your opponent team's hoop more times then they can through your own before the shadow of the sun crosses the line at the end of the court. The victorious team takes part in a sacred ceramony. The culture is built around the cycles of the moon and they celebrate the time of the new phase as their deity returns to their view. Conversly, they are rather solemn when the moon is dark. The full moon constitutes a grand feast every cycle that lasts all night as they celebrate being under the full watchful eye of their gods.

    The Name Game
I've been asked several times what sort of names are appropriate for the El Dogradian citizens, as well as Shedogrians. I hope this will clarify things. What works best is a Meso-American name <yes, I know frequently they are quite long and we are limited to 16 letters in a name> They can be parts of an existing name, or even just something that looks like it belongs there. Do not feel that you need to search out a real one, that is not necessary. If you need help picking a name, feel free to contact me, Don'Qui-lypso, on Flipside and I will be happy to help. A list of suggestions is now available here. If you need help in choosing a name check it out.
Otherwise, it is quite a bit easier to be an explorer! Those names need only be appropraite to the land from which you claim to come from. Heck, you could be an Irish Sett'l'er <couldn't help it:)> named McDermitt. Conquistodogs are ALWAYS needed, Spanish-type names are all that is required here. Use your imagination, within reason, and come up with something creative. If you think it's too far out there, ask. Usually a simple modification makes it acceptable.

    Where did this come from?
Heh heh, way too much time on my paws and a real life dog. Calypso is my rl Sheltie. She likes to chase trees. On one such day, I mentioned she must be chasing her own windmills. Instantly the idea was born-Don Calypso! Hmmm... no... Don Qui-lypso! Then over time <a very short period of time> it melded with my favorite movie "Road to El Dorado". For once I leapt at the idea and made a website, El Dogrado. Over time the site gained popularity and I got the idea of testing it as a mucking world. Thus, El Dogrado became part of Flipside.
